Preserve

When you walk around a city/town you’re constantly bombarded by type. Mostly telling you to “walk this way” or “buy this product” in the standard kind of white-noise design that has become ubiquitous in modern times. However, once in a while you glance some hand-crafted type that raises an eyebrow or even a wry smile. Thankfully, living in a post-industrial city such as Manchester, these occasions happen more frequently.

Take a look at www.preserve.co.nz for a comprehensive selection of distressed typographic signage. If you’ve built up your own personal collection, you can submit your photographic gems to the site.

“Preserve is on going project to produce a permanent visual record of hand painted building signage. Many of these are being erased from our cityscapes either being worn away by weather over time, covered as buildings have been repainted, disappearing as buildings are demolished or replaced with modern signage equivalents.”

Quadradao

Brazilian agency Quadradao (which roughly translates as ‘boxy’) have recently relaunched their site with lots of lovely new projects. The timeline-inspired navigation is like an education into their evolution. I admire their simplicity of predominantly working in type, shape and colour. “Modern architecture influences us, not as form but as a method”. To see more [...]
