2012 = New contributors

Posted by Tom | Posted in General 2012 = New contributors

As 2012 dawns, we’re pleased to announce a couple of new contributors to Raw Type, Tim Wan and Michael Mercer-Brown. We enjoyed their company in 2011 as both guys were on placement at Raw. Apart from being very good designers with a love of typography, they’re also genuinely great people so we’re very pleased to have them on the Good Ship Raw Type. All aboard…

Tim Wan

“I am a UK based graphic designer with a focus towards information driven design solutions predominantly for print based output. My design practice is driven by research and understanding the client, brief and message whilst delivering an outcome with the attention to process, message, production and format. My passion lies within typographic driven design solutions for print and the conventions of publication designs, working with a diverse range of clients.”

Michael Mercer-Brown

“Michael Mercer-Brown is a graphic designer and Manchester School of Art graduate. After graduating last summer he spent his time interning in New York for creative agency Hugo & Marie. There, he was given the chance to work on projects such as stellamccartney.com, ESP records, styledon.com and Bloomingdales. Michael returned to ‘glorious’ Manchester to work alongside the Raw team on several projects, all the while broadening his skills. Michael is currently a freelance designer based in the UK — until he sets sail again that is — and honoured to be a Raw Type contributor. He’s hoping to highlight both traditional and contemporary approaches to typography in practice today.”

His colourful, typographic compositions showcase his skills as an artist, graphic designer, and traditional sign painter. From art directing Surfer Magazine to learning the time-honored craft of sign painting his juxtaposition of old and new methods have evolved to form the backbone of his work today. His sign painting, typography and hand lettering style are gorgeous and [...]

Quadradao

Brazilian agency Quadradao (which roughly translates as ‘boxy’) have recently relaunched their site with lots of lovely new projects. The timeline-inspired navigation is like an education into their evolution. I admire their simplicity of predominantly working in type, shape and colour. “Modern architecture influences us, not as form but as a method”. To see more [...]
